Well for those of you who are interested in the inner most workings of magazine photo departments this two day old blog could end up being quite revealing. A Photo Editor is penned by an anonymous National Magazine Photo Director based here in New York who requests that their name or magazine not be revealed so that they can keep their blog and job. For the record I do not know who it is although I could hazard a guess, Kathy Ryan perhaps of The New York Times Magazine, thats a joke by the way ! But Craig Cutler knows as he is mentioned in todays post, oh and we do know that he/she is a big Seal fan.
Anyways whoever you are I am very much looking forward to all future posts.
Here's to you Photo Editor !

Very Interesting and I'll willing to bet very short lived. This "Photo Editor", who I'm guessing is new at the job, just gave away company secrets. The magazine, which we will all eventually see, has spent thousands if not millions of dollars to try and stand out on the magazine rack as different, maybe even fresh. (You have even discussed this in earlier postings, Jackanory) This "Photo Editor" has just told us the look (photographer) and story (animals) of an upcoming piece, which now can be copied in similar ways. Maybe this isn't relevant anymore but I remember in the mid-90's where you were asked not to discuss with others what was being shot by who until after publication. Did this silence make magazines riskier, more inventive, a la "Ray Gun" "The Face"? Or have mass market publications always been so similar? (insert whichever starlet has a film coming out.)

This could be very short lived indeed providing it is the real deal. There are a couple of things that intrigue me and yes we will pretty much be able to put two and two together once we see a Craig Cutler shoot with some animals.
I wonder is this a photo editor or a director as they allude to in their profile. There are not many director positions and they had to refer to their editor (in chief ?) on the Cutler shoot and I agree the writing seems to be by someone at perhaps a little lower on the masthead, maybe this is deliberate, but they are smart !
They took the time to register the url www.aphotoeditor.com and while they were at it protected the domain by proxy and therefore their personal information is not publically accessible thus hiding their identity.
I wouldnt worry so much about the shoot being copied after all if there are real big animals involved there are only a handful of mags that would pick up the budget if its a big production.
Maybe its Craig Cutler having a laugh, he does some clever self promotion.
I guess we will just have to wait till the next post see what other hints are revealed.
Well, we would hope there is at least some semblance of cleverness on the part of the person writing the blog. So, while the meeting may have in fact taken place and the subject matter of the post is accurate, it is quite possible that the actual photographer they met with and subject of the shoot could be all together different. Then, there they sit having a laugh at all the blog readers looking through magazine racks for an animal shoot done by Criag Cutler.
