On Tuesday it was announced that Getty Images has entered a partnership with Flickr in a deal to license pictures from its members. Techcrunch has the skinny here, CNET here, 'Thoughts of a Bohemian' has his take on things here and be sure to check in on the comments over on APE's post here.
Big thanks to AA for the heads up.

Job Opportunity
Well remember that real job I mentioned in the years first post here, well its out in the open now and up for grabs. Heres the job spec and requirements.
I forgot to ask what the starting salary is so I am no help there.
PHOTO BLOGGER OPPORTUNITYLooks like they are looking for a bit of A Photo Editor, Conscientious, Robert Wright, A Visual Society, Drinking with a Deadman, Ground Glass, Flak Photo, The Business of Photography, The Strobist, I Heart Photo, PDN Pulse, Exposure Compensation, State of the Art, Chase Jarvis, Stock Photo Talk and a Jackanory. If you think you got what it takes drop me a line and I can point you in the right direction.
PhotoShelter is looking for a full-time blogger to help unite the photographer and photo buying communities into a single online community. We can share details in person – if you have at least 5 years of experience as a photo editor, professional photographer, and/or art director, and are interested in getting out of production and focusing on what's going on in the business of photography today, please get in touch. Excellent writing skills, personal passion for commercial photography, energy, imagination, and NYC-area residence are all required. Prior experience with blogging/building online communities is a plus but not a requirement. Mainly, we just want a cool person who can talk to all sides of the industry with understanding and credibility, attend and report on industry events and brainstorm and coordinate guest contributers.

Breaking Industry News ! ! ! !
Now and again we have a scoop here on 'Whats the Jackanory ?'. Well it is a scoop as long as you were not in attendence at 'Photography 2.0: The Business of Photography in the Digital Era' a town hall meeting designed to bring together active image buyers and photographers from all sides of the business to discuss the impact of the Internet on the industry. Event hosts Photoshelter chose New York to announce the launch of their new online image selling marketplace, The Photoshelter Collection. The Collection combines the diversity of photography found across the web into a single, edited, professionalized venue built for effective searching and instant purchasing.
Today September the 15th is the official launch day and the site is now live and accepting submissions, go here. I strongly encourage everyone to take a look see because it is open to us all no matter and although there are similar services available elsewhere they seem to be generally interested in doing right by us photographers.
Heres what they are offering, see below and I got to admit the sales pitch was pretty convincing. I think one of the keys to financial success in photography in the new age is to have your finger in as many pies as possible. One must be proactive in searching for opportunities and I believe that this has something to offer. Not only are they providing the chance to sell your work at a photographer friendly % they are also offering a chance to get involved in a community.
A full run down of the other goings on from yesterday will be posted below, and I will break it up to make it all the more manageable.

You keep 70% of your transaction proceedsAnd perhaps just as important here is some of what they are offering photo buyers
No fancy accounting, no co-brokered transactions to water down your earnings
Total transparency of transactions
You price your rights-managed and royalty-free images at market rates
You keyword your own images against their controlled library
They have hired linguists to help with the process
You manage what is for sale and at what terms, at any time
Their community forums will enable you to engage with each other, their staff and with photo buyers to discuss topics from how to price an image to what buyers are looking for now
Leverage within the community to expand your expertise, build your network, and help teach others
They promise to work hard everyday to market The Photoshelter Collection to an evergrowing audience of professional image buyers, from magazines to advertising agencies to graphic design shops.
Their research results provide the fairest ranking algorithims to maximise visibility and revenues for all their photographers
You will not be competing with wholly owned content
You will get valuable feedback on your work from their team of editors with every image you submit
They are looking for quality work - NO CRAP
Apply now and earn 85% commission on all images submitted and accepted before November 5, 2007
They are going to spend $ 1,000,000.00 marketing the collection over the next year
Oh and its free to submit !!!!!!!
A constantly changing stream of content from a broad base of contributorsOh and they seem like cool people who are not looking to cash in and get bought up by Getty, I did ask by the way.
A vital source for high-quality pro and alternative stock imagery
They will actively search out pro and hobbyist photographers who would not typically sell their work as stock, but who's visions they think provide original and commercially viable pictures
They promise to provide a concentrated collection that is organized and searchable
Etc.etc
A full run down of the other goings on from yesterday will be posted below, and I will break it up to make it all the more manageable.
