As we continue with tear sheet Thursday its time to introduce the April Outside mag in all its worldly glory. Thrilled to have two features, the TOC and make the contributor page.
The first story is the latest shot back in January in Franklin Tennesse. ‘Young Man in a Hurry’ tells the tale of former photographer turned Lonely Planet mogul Daniel Houghton.
It’s a fascinating piece. Not only is it about Houghton who is 24, a complete unknown who has no previous mogul experience at all a part from managing his own wedding photography business. But it is also about Brad Kelley a reclusive billionaire who made his money in tobacco before selling up, opening a media company and then buying the flalling Lonely Planet guide travel empire, putting Houghton in charge with a view to remaking the legendary brand for the digital age. And while we are at it we get a schooling on the travel book industry, it’s history, its relevancy and future (the article is not available online at the moment).
