Playing catch up in the home office after a hectic month of travel and excited to see some of this years work bearing fruit in the printed matter. The above spread is my latest contribution to ESPN the Magazine’s 1 Day 1 Game photo franchise.
This time out college basketball was in the spotlight and I spent a couple of days in Ann Arbor in early February with 8 of my esteemed colleagues covering all things Michigan V The Ohio State.
The focus of my assignment was The Maize Rage, the rabid Michigan student fan section. I infiltrated the group along with writer Morty Ain and was privileged to witness a lot of the shenanigans involved in a typical game day, including the necessary bathroom pit spot, this time accompanied by Dicky V poking out of nether regions.
This was my second 1 Day 1 game gig and as before it was such a special treat to get the call up and to be able to contribute to such a unique project. Big ups to my fellow photographers John Loomis, Chip Litherland, Ross Dettman, Nataniel Welch, Joe Robbins, Steve Boyle, Emilio Collavino and Jenn Ackerman for continually pushing and inspiring.
Super thrilled with my toilet humor opener. Funny didn’t even enter my head as a candidate but when you have a crack team of editors making the calls magic does happen. Huge thanks to Karen Frank, Stephanie Weed, Nick Galac, Jim Surber and Devon O’Rourke for making it such a memorable and fruitful experience.
